PODCAST 08
[ADAM ANT LIVE RESULTS SPECIAL]

In the previous CARTY FM Podcast (number 07), I had up for grabs, two tickets for the Intimate Evening with Adam Ant in London on September 24th 2007.   The closing date was August 31st 2007 with the winner was drawn live during this podcast on the following day, September 1st 2007.

American Ant fan Carla Ralston picked up two tickets for the third row (C) at Adam Ant's rather intimate evening.  All listeners had to do was name the titles of the 10 Ant tunes edited together in a 20 second sound bite featured in the last podcast.  Out of all of the entries received, only two managed to guess nine tunes out of ten correctly, the other entrant being Dutchman Jan Kluitenberg.

In this podcast I present the answers to the conundrum along with the on-air draw to decide who claims the prize tickets.

The image below was used to publiscise the competition.  Thanks to all those who entered.  All good clean fun (whatever that means...).

Full details on how to listen and/or download the Carty FM Podcasts can be found here.  If you'd like to hear a specific tune, whether it be Ant related or not, just send an email to studio@cartrouble.nl.

You will also find links to purchase the music (where available) from Amazon.co.uk.

PLAYLIST

01 - Adam & The Ants - Physical (You're So)

The first snippet used in the competition was that first drumbeat which appears in the intro, just after Adam introduces the track.  The version used was the one which first appeared on the b-side of Dog Eat Dog in the UK and on the Kings Of The Wild Frontier vinyl LP in the US.  You can also find it on the following releases:

Kings Of The Wild Frontier album (US)The Very Best Of Adam AntB-Side Babies albumGoody Two Shoes (Germany)AntBoxThe Essential Adam Ant

02 - Adam Ant - No Zap

Goody Two Shoes (Germany)

Yes it's Faith by George Michael.   No Zap is a track on the Vive Le Rock album, yet also appeared on the German Goody Two Shoes compilation, which is pictured on the left.  A different Wessex version appears on AntBox, but I kept with the original for the competition.

You can also find it on the following releases:

Vive Le Rock albumGoody Two Shoes (Germany)Vive Le Rock 2005 remastered

03 - Adam Ant - Good Sex Rumples The Clothing

Friend Or Foe Remastered

This track was recorded during the same session as the 1982 b-sides Juanito The Bandito and Why Do Girls Love Horses just after Adam and Marco returned from a tour of Japan  All three are old Adam tracks from his pre-Dirk days.  This recording was added to the remastered Friend Or Foe album in 2005 and recently covered by the Happy Millionaire.

04 - Adam & The Ants - A.N.T.S.

Obviously this was one to catch people out, and it did.  Everyone thought it was Zerox, but Adam also uses the same riff in his cover version of Y.M.C.A. which first appeared as a free flexi disc with UK magazine Flexipop.  Luckily it was included on AntBox so that it could be heard in better quality that flexi discs could ever give us.

The obvious different in the competition snippet to Zerox was the drums.  But then again, I would say that.

05 - Adam & The Ants - Kings Of The Wild Frontier (First version)

Many entrants thought this snippet was from Prince Charming due to the screaming, but it was taken from the First Version of Kings Of The Wild Frontier, again from AntBox.  However, on AntBox, the first word ("A") was edited off.  So I dug out my copy of the recording and edited it back on just for this podcast.

06 - Adam Ant - Cajun Twisters

Friend Or Foe Remastered

This was one of the easiest as it sounds like no other Ant track and has been available for 25 years.  Taken from the Friend Or Foe album, and completely mis-pronounced by BBC Radio 1 DJ Peter Powell when Adam was being interviewed before its release.

What a bore you pop stars are!

07 - Adam & The Ants - Puerto Rican

Complete Radio 1 Sessions

Even though this was recorded as a session for John Peel at the BBC, it failed to appear on the Adam And The Ants Peel Sessions album (along with Deutscher Girls).  This was mainly due to its alleged racial overtones.  However in 2001 the BBC released The Complete Radio 1 Sessions (called Live At The BBC in the US) which included all of the Peel sessions and a few more recorded for the Simon Mayo show.

08 - Adam Ant - Try This For Sighs

Friend Or Foe Remastered

I used the sticks found towards the end of this Friend Or Foe album track.  Many thought it was 'Antmusic', but the sticks are found just in the left channel and much crisper here.   But, I would say that.

09 - Adam & The Ants - Nine Plan Failed

Dirk Wears White Sox Remastered

Well I had a choice.  Either use Apollo 9 or Nine Plan Failed for snippet #9.  Well that's a crap excuse, but having already decided to use this snippet in the list if ten, it just seemed nice to use it here.

A personal fave of mine, and goes well with Eminem too!

10 - Adam Ant - How To Steal The World

"Zero hour!"...which is ironic as I thought he said "zero power" until I did this competition.  How To Steal The World was the Bond-esque b-side to the Can't Set Rules About Love 7", and also appeared on the cassette, CD and 12" version of the release.

11 - Hall & Oates vs Adam And The Ants - Anteater (Brandy Mix by Partz)

DOWNLOAD THE MP3

I have to admit to not knowing anything about this mash-up when I played it in the podcast, except that I obtained from a collector of mash-ups who was interested in some of mine.

In this track, there are some hidden Ant gems.  Obviously 'Antmusic' and Kings Of The Wild Frontier are used, but the snare from Goody Two Shoes (album version) is used, and look out for the Dog Eat Dog sample!  The female voice is Brandy, who's not as sexy as the CARTY FM voice-over babe, Radio Jenn.

This has been produced by Partz.  Awesome.
