I am giving away two tickets for the Intimate Evening with Adam Ant.  The competition will feature in this Carty FM Podcast.  The closing date will be August 31st 2007 with the winner drawn on September 1st 2007.

To win two tickets for the third row (C) at Adam Ant's rather intimate evening, all listeners to this Carty FM podcast have to do is name the titles of the 10 Ant tunes edited together in a 20 second soundbite.  This soundbite is repeated during the show.

Entries will be via email to a specific email address created especially for the competition.  Terms and conditions are available here.

Full details on how to listen and/or download the Carty FM Podcasts can be found here.  If you'd like to hear a specific tune, whether it be Ant related or not, just send an email to carty@cartrouble.nl.

You will also find links to purchase the music (where available) from Amazon.co.uk.

PLAYLIST

01 - Daler Mehndi & The Wolfmen - Two Eyes

No link to buy this as it hasn't been released yet.  This collaboration began as a project for The Wolfmen who have essentially created a new backing track to Daler Mehndi's "Two Eyes".   So pleased is India's #1 selling singer with this that it is rumoured that the Wolfmen have been offered to do the whole album.   Currently storming the BBC Asian Network Chart.

02 - Clash - 1977

Originally the flip side to The Clash's first single White Riot, released in March 1977.  Their first album (The Clash) was released the same year to considerable success in the UK. However, their label, CBS, initially declined to release it in the United States, waiting until 1979 before releasing a modified version in the US, after the UK original had become the best-selling import album of all time in the United States.  Taken from the featured Carty FM compilation 1977 The Spirit Of Punk.

03 - Skids - Into The Valley

A #10 hit in 1979 for the Scottish punk band, The Skids.  The single was lifted from their Scared To Dance album and remains a favourite of soccer fans of English Premiership side Charlton Athletic (as their ground is called The Valley) and of Scottish Premiership side Dunfermline Athletic (as that's the band's home town).  Lead singer Stuart Adamson eventually left to form Big Country.  Taken from the featured Carty FM compilation 1977 The Spirit Of Punk.

04 - fuTuRo - Keep Tomorrow Hanging

Steve Lima is the guy behind the awesome fuTuRo mixes.  And this just has to be one of the best around.  The Supremes vs The Stereophonics (in fact, I actually say the Manic Street Preachers and Diana Ross in the podcast!), from Detroit to Wales.  Sheer perfection.  fuTuRo uses many of the Motown acappellas which have been released on special karaoke CD's which feature original artists from the label.   The quality of these recordings are superb and it's only a matter of time until a Carty mix is born.   Check out more of his mixes at his site.

05 - Blancmange - Living On The Ceiling

The track never fails to hit me right in the Eighties.  A Top Ten hit in 1982 in the UK and was even re-recorded for the BBC back then.  For some reason the line "I'm up the bloody tree" would re-sung as "I'm up the cuckoo tree"!  It seems so pathetic 25 years on.  The compilation on the left, The Platinum Collection was released in 2006 and is selling at a silly price at Amazon.co.uk!

06 - Farmers Boys - More Than A Dream

Bang Goes My Stereo!  Don't panic!  That's what this band were called before they were called The Farmer's Boys.  And coming from Norwich they probably were sons of farmers!  This was released in 1982, but not their biggest hit.  That came two years later.  Carty FM listener Chippy requested more 80's in the podcast and suggested something by The Farmers Boys and Blancmange.  Glad to be of service.

07 - Wide Boy Awake - Chicken Outlaw

During Antfest 2007, whilst sharing MC and DJ duties with ex-Ants bass guitarist Kevin Mooney, he kindly gave me a CD of eight remastered Wide Boy Awake tunes (The EP Collection).  The first of which is featured here, Chicken Outlaw, their first single after Kevin "left" the Ants.  This happens to be the extended version.  The single was released in 1982 and backed with Slang Teacher - the bassline of which is suspiciously similar to Don't Be Square (Be There) by the Ants.  Something Mr Mooney seemed surprised at when I put this to him.  Adam Ant also covered Chicken Outlaw (titled Black Pirates) as part of Kev's other project The Lavender Pill Mob.

08 - Damned - New Rose

The Damned were the first UK punk band to release a single, album and tour the US.  That single was the brilliant New Rose backed with a crazy version of the Beatles' song Help! on the flip.  New Rose was one of the first non-Ant songs I was playing on my Kays acoustic guitar back in those pre-band days.  No wonder I ended up being a drummer!  Taken from the featured Carty FM compilation 1977 The Spirit Of Punk.

09 - Jeremy Healy & Amos - Stamp!

I remember receiving the promo 12" of this from Positiva Records back in 1996.  I instantly fell in love with it and chart returned it at #1 for many many weeks.  Seeing the dance floor go crazy to this was better than any drug doing the round at the time.  It was only until I read the blurn sheet that came with promos that I realised Jeremy Healy was one third of the trio who are next on this playlist.  This CD single can be picked up rediculously cheap at Amazon (link left).  One pence for crying out loud.  I've just ordered one to get this monster on CD at last!

10 - Haysi Fantayzee - John Wayne Is Big Leggy

Yes, Jeremy Healy was a member of Haysi Fantayzee, along with sexy Kate Garner and the quiet dude always in the background.   John Wayne Is Big Leggy and its suggestive lyrics surprisingly made it to the BBC Radio One playlist without censorship.  This track, along with their other singles and 12" versions are now available on a newly remastered and expanded version of their only album, Battle Hymns For Children Singing

11 - Adam And The Ants - Deutscher Girls

One of the very first Adam And The Ants recordings ever recorded for release, just after Plastic Surgery in fact.  That and Deutscher Girls appeared on the soundtrack to the Jubilee Cert X movie on EG Records.  When the Ants were at the height of their chart career in 1981/2, EG decided to release the track, backed with Plastic Surgery, as a single.  Adam wasn't happy with his new fan base hearing the Nazi references in the song, so he recorded certain lines on the quiet.   The single was credited to The Original Adam And The Ants and was featured on Top Of The Pops to an all female dancing troupe.  Sadly the compilers of this compilation have used that re-recorded vocal version as opposed to the one on Jubilee.  Taken from the featured Carty FM compilation 1977 The Spirit Of Punk.

12 - Bowling For Soup - High School Never Ends

Confession time.  I admit to forgetting the name of the album this track was taken from in the podcast.  How could I forget The Great Burrito Extortion Case?  My studio notes were to blame.  Anyway, it's another appearance from Bowling For Soup with this great track High School Never Ends.  A request and recommendation from Tex, who can only be described as a BFS groupie when not drooling over Adam Ant.  (I'll get in trouble for that!  Copy this now before I am ordered to make changes!).  Echoes of Toni Basil's Mickey, but then again, it IS about High School.

13 - Blondie - Rip Her To Shreds

Rip Her To Shreds was just a minor hit in 1977, in Australia and taken from their first album Blondie from 1976.  So even though it's not recognised as a single to the rest of the world, the compilers of this new compilation CD can only be praised for its inclusion.   In fact, radio stations in Australia played the b-side by mistake and that song, In The Flesh, earned its own release charting as high as #4 down under.  Taken from the featured Carty FM compilation 1977 The Spirit Of Punk.

14 - 2 Deep - Life Party

Another track I received as a 12" promo, this time back in 1991 from the A&M subsidiary label, Atomic.   I completely failed to recognise the sample from Burundi Black for many years and only recently managed to track it down on CD and 12" vinyl on eBay.  This track was featured in a Reebok TV advert in the UK at the time and has always remained a personal favourite.

15 - Dubrobots - Stop To Think Who's The Slave And Who's The Master (Ba Ba Bo)

In this podcast I announce that the Dubrobots are a MySpace act, yet whilst researching for this page there appears to be no music page for this artist. (I think the link below are still them.)  I have exchanged messages with a person about this track.  He even emailed a better quality mp3 that was on his MySpace site.  So putting the mystery aside for now, this Cartrouble Part 1 sampling track impressed me enough to keep it on the ever changing and ever evolving Carty FM playlist.

15 - Wolfmen - Cecilie

Pre-order NOW

Cecilie is the new single from The Wolfmen and is released on September 17th 2007.  All pre-orders of the 7" will be entered into a draw to win a copy of Adam Ant's Vive Le Rock signed by Adam and The Wolfmen who both played on the album.  And if that isn't enough, those who pre-order the CD single could win Adam's handwritten lyrics to the Vive Le Rock track.  Names also go into a hat for that.  If you pre-order BOTH the vinyl and CD versions of Cecilie, you will be entered into another draw.  This time to win Marco's gold disc award for the legendary Adam and the Ants album Kings Of The Wild Frontier.
