PLAYLIST

01 - Hyper - We Control

The opening and title track from Hyper latest album, and the opening track for this podcast.  We Control, which was released as a single in 2005, is a surprisingly much better album that the version of Ant Music (sic) it contains.  Hyper has previously released material as DJ Hyper and this album rocks.  If only one of the dance mixes of Ant Music were used instead of the original used (the DJ Sing Radio Edit appears later in the show).

02 - The Quakes - 'Antmusic'

A rock-a-billy version of 'Antmusic' hidden away on The Quakes' 2006 album Psyops.  It plays after the final track, Intro, has finished and is not credited on the CD.  It's that bass line during the end of the chorus that does it for me.

03 - CrashTV - Tabletalk

The official Adam Ant forum, Ant Rap posted a link to this instrumental WIP demo by CrashTV - or at least that what I believe this to be.  As I say in the podcast I am not sure if vocals will be added, yet this haunting version of Tabletalk retains the emotional feel, very much present on the Adam And The Ants' original.  I should have more info on this but I haven't even contacted the band or read the Ant Rap thread for updates, so feel free to keep me posted.

04 - Gary Numan - Cars ('E' Reg Model Extended Mix)

Cars was a UK #1 for Gary Numan in 1979 from The Pleasure Principle album, yet this remix was produced in 1987 and has only ever appeared on his Exhibition CD compilation (left).  In fact, this particular version was taken from a DJ-only 1980's 12" compilation CD box set by Mastermix.

05 - T Rex - Life's A Gas

There's no denying that Electric Warrior is one of, if not the best T. Rex album, and to choose just one track for the podcast was by no means easy.  This was the band's second album and features the singles Jeepster and Get It On.  In the US a group called Chase had released a single called Get It On and as a result T. Rex renamed their hit Bang A Gong (Get It On)Life's A Gas is one of cooler tracks on the album (produced by Tony Visconti).

06 - Primal Scream - Rocks

Rocks was a #13 hit for Primal Scream in 1994 although their first brush with chart success came four years earlier with Loaded.  During my club DJ'ing days (or nights) of the early 90's, Primal Scream club mixes often featured in my sets, although I must admit to not being that aware of any later projects.  After Marco Pirroni informed me that he had recorded guitar parts for a new track I dug out this one to compliment I Put A Spell On You, which closes this podcast.

07 - Bowling For Soup - I Ran (So Far Away)

Bowling For Soup covered this A Flock Of Seagulls track on their Drunk Enough To Dance album in 2002.  The album reached #14 in the UK and the single Girl All The Bad Guys Want peaked at an impressive #8 - considerably higher than in the Billboard Hot 100 across the pond.  I Ran (So Far Away) is a gutsy version and just had to be play listed after a request NOT to play anything by A Flock Of Seagulls.  Much too tempting.

08 - King - Love & Pride (USA Summer Mix)

It has to be said that the recent influx of compilation CD's featuring extended versions of 80's hits has greatly excited my privates!  Some of these collections are DJ-only but a good number are publicly available and include many gems I never heard the first time around.  The USA Summer Mix of Love & Pride by King has a very attractive drum section and can only be found on this compilation (left).

09 - ABC - Poison Arrow (US Jaxx Mix)

Another 'rare' 12 incher from the triple CD 12"/80s Pop compilation.  There's a bit of confusion over the name of the remix as some sites list this as the US Jazz Mix (which makes more sense).  However, the jazz vibe given to this classic ABC track results in a very fresh feel to cool down those hot summer days ahead.  Why does Martin Fry sing, 'Shoot that poison arrow TRUE my heart'?

10 - Hyper ft Leeroy Thornhill - Ant Music (DJ Sing Radio Edit)

There are many remixes of Hyper's cover version of Ant Music.  The DJ Sing Remix being the most commercial and here is the radio edit of that mix.  Just as Client insist on their Zerox single Zerox Machine, so does Hyper decide to incorrectly name this song.  Instead of 'Antmusic' we have Ant Music.  Silly you may think, but just watch me boil when I see Cartouble split into two words.  Anyway, the CD single is hard to track down, but Amazon have a few on import (left)

11 - Adam And The Ants - Lou Reed Dive (Dance) (Muswell Hill Demo)

I have been working on a Roll Over Beethoven type remix of this for the past two years, but because of the sensitivity surrounding this recording it has never been completed.  Here it is in its original form.  The bass guitar is only just audible in the right channel.  Will we ever see the Young Man Rocking demo box set?  It looks very unlikely from where I am sat.  But we are talking Decca and not Sony, although maybe Adam has unplugged this jukebox too.

12 - Nine Inch Nails - Perfect Drug

The intro to this Nine Inch Nails track is just asking to be stolen as a sample for as future project.  Perfect Drug was recorded especially for the soundtrack to the Lost Highway movie in 1997.  A CD single of remixes was released the same year and is available here.  (The Amazon links on the left are for the soundtrack CD).  A personal favourite of Ant Lady's.

13 - Southside Movement - I've Been Watching You

Don't blink or you will miss the opening guitar chords.  Described by Marco recently as a 'fucking awesome' track and stumbled upon by accident will I was researching another project.  If Dog Eat Dog wasn't influenced by this then I'm an Englishman!  Either way, the horn section lifts this piece to heights only equalled by Makes Me Proud... (if only I had discovered this when producing that!).  Taken from the brilliant Southside Movement 1974 album, Moving South.

14 - Primal Scream (ft Marco Pirroni) - I Put A Spell On You

Originally a hit for Screaming 'Jay' Hawkins which appeared on the SEX compilation CD on Marco's label, Only Lovers Left AlivePirroni joins Bobby Gillespie's Primal Scream for this 2007 remake.  Marco tells me a video has been filmed for the track at the Alexander McQueen fashion show in Paris.  This is an exclusive Carty FM play and may not even be the finished mix, so lap it up while you still can.
