1. Carty, Ciaron & Marco - Man Called Marco 2006
1. CARTY, CIARON & MARCO - MAN CALLED MARCO 2006
After sending a copy of Ciaron's own cover version of this song to Marco Pirroni, things started to take a very different turn. Marco started sending me ideas for a new approach to this tune. After getting in touch with Ciaron, it was decided we would create a drastically different version of Man Called Marco, featuring brand new guitars from both Marco and Ciaron himself. In the end, due to my commitments with post-producing the Mantra II album Werewolves Of London, Ciaron finished off the production and after we'd both agreed on some small tweaks, the new version was at last complete.
2. ADAM AND THE ANTS - JOLLY ROGER (CAPTAIN DALTON REMIX)
DJ Tiësto - Pirates Of The Caribbean (Remix) This remix was created especially for Seedy's annual 2006 July birthday bash. 2005's theme was Christmas, and 2006's theme wass pirates! It seemed obvious to mix Jolly Roger with the remix from the Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 movie theme by Dutch maestro, DJ Tiësto. With some samples from the first Pirates Of The Caribbean movie added to keep the theme going, it's eight minutes of bass pumping Ants.
3. MUSE vs ADAM ANT - MUSE AT THE TOP
Adam Ant - Room At The Top Someone on the Ant Rap Forum suggested that the current single from Muse had an intro similar to the guitar riff from Room At The Top. Having been listening to that album for weeks on my mp3 player, I begged to differ. To satisfy my decision, I gave Supermassive Black Hole another listen. I couldn't have been more wrong. What's more, both songs were in the same key. A mash-up was born. A riff in the Muse track reminded me of a Van Halen riff sampled by Tone-Lōc in his Wild Thing single, so I decided to use it for the mix, along with its drum loop. The Cameo flute sample was the last thing to be added as Adam's drums intro bore an uncanny resemblance to the red cod-piece wearing Larry Blackmon track. (Larry also produced Brain Candy and Little Devil on Adam's unreleased Persuasion album).
4. ADAM ANT - LIGHT BLUE SCAB (PURE MIX)
Adam And The Ants - Cleopatra I remember the days when I used to make all these mixes for my own personal pleasure, not really bothered whether people liked them or not. Of course, it's great when people say they love a mix. It's also good to know when a mix isn't liked. But lately I have been doing a lot of requested stuff and special projects, so I thought it was about time I went back to my original way and just played around with an idea I had had in my head for a while. But do it for myself this time. Even though Red Scab is very much an integral part of this mix, I am not calling it a remix. It's just a musical collage of songs I seem to connect with the drums to Queen's We Will Rock You. I could have gone on for double the length, but decided to quit once those drums began to speed up. It was a sod to match the Sly Fox snare with Chris Hughes's. It also confirmed how similar I thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Dani California is to Blur's Country House. I used the Def Leppard track as I remember the band saying they had based their drums on Queen's. The Cleopatra intro appeared quite late in the production process. It's not going to be a great Carty mix. It was never meant to be. But I love it.
5. CLIENT - ZERØX MACHINE (CARTY REMIX)
Client - Zerox Machine This almost didn't end up as a remix of Client's Zerøx Machine. I also had the Ants' original running in the mix program and was tempted to use my backing track for that. In fact I loved this new backing so much I almost ditched both remixes in favour of my own cover version. Luckily, no vocals were recorded. However, the trio of ladies that make up Client had done a splendid job of their Youth produced version that I felt more inclined to use it. A promo CD had been sent out to the UK's nightclub DJ's with three new and very different remixes and I felt the song had been lost. After failing to obtain the acapella from the band I salvaged what vocals I could from the promo remixes and proceeded to produce and new bass line and create a new drum track. The final demo (# 22) which is now the final version here, was sent to Client and to Marco. Client said "fantastic". Marco never replied. (Well it was never his song anyway).
6. ULTRAVØX vs ADAM AND THE ANTS - KINGS OF VIENNA
Ultravox - Vienna An earlier demo of this was played on the Carty FM test podcast, and this is a mix that has been sitting around for half a year. It was then called Vienna Kings, but I changed the title at the last minute. It remained untouched for some time after the podcast until 11th September 2006, when I was looking through some old folders of WIP mixes. (There's way too many unfinished gems waiting to be completed). Some reverb and volume adjustments were made to Adam's vocals and an extra sample from the Burundi Black track was added at the end. It took less than an hour to finish this mix off. And they go together so well.
7. ADAM ANT - MANNERS & PHYSIQUE (FULL ALBUM MEGAMIX)
Adam Ant - U.S.S.A. There's not really much to say about this as it is exactly what it says. A megamix of every track on Adam's Manners & Physique album from 1990. And compared to the other Ant full album megamixes I have produced, this is the by far the best mixed one.
Many thanks to Seedy for hosting the mixes on antfan.com with additional hugs to Ant Lady for designing the CD covers and labels. ©Light Blue Car Productions 2000-2007
